Rock Wrasslin

There are alot of different ways to get after it.One the best ways is Kayaking hard rivers with a solid crew of friends.Another great way is to spend a day on the rock. Before kayaking found me,this was my religion. Here are some pics of my lady,Laura, and myself gettin after it.Enjoy!

Brick Mill Creek 1st descent

First thing i need to say is that we think no one has run this, but then again,we could be wrong.I heard about this creek from Warren Stallings,he told about a 100 yard stretch of class 4,ending with a 15-20 foot double drop falls,15 minutes from my house!I picked up Warren and we went to check it out. Upon arriving we found that it had just enough water for a run.The lead in drops started with a small slide, followed by a few small ledges, ending with an s-turn type drop with a couple of cool moves. We decide the 1st drop of the falls needed more water due to rocks in the landing, but the 2nd drop was good to go with a nice 8-10 foot boof into a deep pool. This is definetly not a destination run,but it felt good to be gettin' after it!Peace.

Frogtown Update

I woke up wednesday morning to my phone alarm at 6am,it was raining all night and I couldn't wait to see what the gauges had in store!A quick check showed plenty of water in Dahlonega,so we were off to Frogtown!I met up with Matt "tinker" Saul and Warren Stallings in town and we headed up to Turners Corner.Thinking Frogtown might be a little too high,we went to Dick's to wait for it to drop.Dicks is a nice roadside 4/5 run if you are in the area, but i wanted the 40er,Frogtown falls. After 2 laps on Dicks that included a aerial flat spin(unintentional)by Tinker,we decided to go put on.The flow had dropped into a nice, fluffy medium and we quickly made our way to the falls carnage free.Having run it before,Idropped in 1st and had a nice line, rolling into my tuck right on time and resurfacing upright.Stallings went next, then Tinker. We all had a good hoot and holler at the bottom while looking up at one of the cleanest drops that I know of.

Fall in the South:Raven Fork

Fall is a special time here in dixie land. The weather is perfect, the leaves change colors to create a landscape which rivals any that I have seen, and when it rains all things combine to create an amazing environment for kayaking. One of the most amazing things about fall is all the dam release runs all over the south have scheduled fall releases! This year I chose to stay away from the crowds of Tallulah and Cheoah to spend more time running the Raven Fork before it gets too cold.Over the past year or so this has become one of my favorite runs, its one of the best for sure.I got five days up there this fall and they were action packed! This place is no joke, its physically demanding and if you are not in shape, you will know it quick!I'm not going to elaborate too much about the river, just a few photos and a few thoughts in no order at all. Jedi mind tricks.Watch the hole when its low!I saw 2 swims and about 4 surfs there at low this fall, somewhere around 8 inches on the gauge.Really amazing to run from the top of jedi all the way to the top of big boy with no eddies, but there is a big log thats got that shut down for awhile, you have to portage right after Jedi.

Warren Stallings at Headless. Jonathon Absher at the bottom of headless.Headless horseman is one of the many amazing channelized bedrock rapids found in the upper part of the run.
